Help

  • As a Board Certified General Surgeon in the Crow/Northern Cheyenne (CNCH) IHS Hospital, examines, diagnoses, and performs surgery where appropriate for patients with surgical conditions. Provides the full range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for patient with surgical conditions requiring the services of a General Surgeon.
  • Assignments involve providing major surgical operations such as, cholecystectomy, thyroidectomy, and other general surgical procedures, both under local and general anesthesia.
  • Conducts ambulatory surgery clinic and Same Day Surgery.
  • Examines, diagnoses, and treats by surgical means diseases and injuries, and on occasion assists specialists in performing specialized surgery.
  • Provides consultation to the Crow Service Unit (CSU) medical staff on surgical operations and advanced diagnostic and treatment procedures as related to Surgery.
  • Provides preoperative diagnostic evaluation, care, and coordination of scheduling for patients requiring operative intervention.
  • Routine duties shall include providing medical care and public health services to individuals eligible for services provided by the IHS in homes, schools, clinics, job sites, and other community locations within the Service Unit.

Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957 and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities.

COVID-19 vaccination is required for all selectees prior to entrance on duty.

The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. If privileges are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service.

For GS-15 -- 5 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR (SPF):
The SPF is determined to be essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.

· Board Certification: Board Certification has been determined to be important to perform the duties and responsibilities of this
position. Board Certified in the physician's specialty by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or the American Osteopathic
Association (AOA) is a condition of employment.

Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

Per IHS policy (SGM 21-04) IHS selectees to positions located in Federally operated hospitals, health centers, and clinics must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before entry on duty or have IHS approve a medical or religious exemption. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave.

This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit.
