Duties

Help
  • Responsible for planning, directing, and administering the overall Operation, Maintenance, Park Management, and Resource Management program at a multi-purpose project.
  • Develop and implement a variety of controversial natural resources management and protection programs.
  • Supervise approved mitigation plans and other authorized land management plans, operational controls, and procedures governing conservation and use of project resources.
  • Review requests for leases, licenses, and special use permits.
  • Establish and oversee land and water patrols and inspections to prevent unauthorized use, trespass or destruction of property, and ensure visitor compliance with usage rules and regulations.
  • Establish, inspect, and maintain the Government boundary line to prevent conflicts with adjacent property owners.
  • Responsible for the preparation, justification and support of budgets, obligations and expenditure schedules and spreadsheets.
  • Administer effective programs, including but not limited to, public safety, resource management, fish and wildlife management, public recreation, and interpretation of natural, historical, archaeological and cultural features of the project.
  • Perform supervisory management duties by assigning, reviewing, and evaluating work products of subordinates.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must possess a valid motor vehicle license and be qualified to drive government vehicles IAW Corps of Engineers standards.
  • Incumbent must wear the prescribed uniform.
  • May be assigned to work a typical schedule and/or weekends and holidays depending on the needs of the project to which assigned.
  • Must obtain and maintain a USACE motorboat license (less than 26') within 12 months.
  • This is a testing designated position (TDP). Incumbent is subject to random drug testing.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Supervisory Natural Resource Mangement Specialist, GS-0401:

Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience overseeing the Operation & Maintenance (O&M) of a dam/lake project to include administration of a Park Management, Natural Resource Management, or Public Lands Management program. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
