Duties

Help

As a Health Science Policy Analyst, your duties include:

  • Developing, implementing, and reporting on organization's strategic plans related to mental health and mental health research programs.
  • Conducting analyses of significant scientific and policy issues and subject matter areas to guide the mental health services and intervention research agenda.
  • Developing reports summarizing the activities and resulting progress for the high priority areas involving mental health services and intervention research.
  • Serving as an expert and recognized authority on science policy analysis of mental health services and intervention research.
  • Providing expertise to leadership in collecting and analyzing scientific data, generating results, and interpreting the results to enable data-driven decision making for development or refinement of science policies of broad scope and impact.
  • Identifying and conducting extensive analysis of trends in and/or emerging or potential problems and opportunities in mental health services and intervention research that may have implications for the programs.
  • Preparing a broad range of recurring and special documents and position papers containing substantive scientific information and other program data, related fiscal data, and policy options.

Qualifications

You qualify at the GS-14 level, if you meet the following qualification requirements:

Minimum Education Requirement:
Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
AND
You must demonstrate one year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: performing strategic research program planning for mental health services and intervention research; designing and conducting studies and analyses of science policy issues; providing guidance on the policies, procedures, and requirements for the planning, analysis, and accomplishment of research programs; and collaborating with scientists, program staff, or other organizations to accomplish health science policy, strategic planning, and projects.

  • Location of position is negotiable after selection. Your salary will be based upon the locality pay of your work site as determined by law. The selected individuals may work anywhere in the United States, including onsite at NIH's main campus in Bethesda, MD. Work sites outside of the U.S. are prohibited. Remote employees must adhere to all regulations and policies regarding remote work at NIH and in the federal government, including the signing of a remote work agreement.
  • This position is eligible for non-local remote work, a position designation where little to no onsite presence is required (e.g., once or twice annually). You may work anywhere in the U.S., including any of the territories. Worksites outside of the U.S. are prohibited. Your pay is determined by the geographically defined pay locality applicable to your approved worksite (e.g., home residence).
