This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration. Duties

Help

As an ARCHIVES TECHNICIAN, you will:

  • Act as a first-line liaison between agency customers and the assigned Federal Records Center (FRC), keeps agency customers informed of daily delivery schedule, to include delays or fluctuations which could impact customer operations.
  • Perform or oversees the performance of various duties related to receiving, shelving, searching, refiling, interfiling, and destroying Federal records.
  • At supervisor's request, conducts systematic searches for records, and performs audits on agency submitted second requests, as well as unusual requests, refiles, and interfiles.
  • Advise and provide technical assistance to agency records officers on routine techniques and procedures for delivering records to the center.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.   • This position requires candidates to pass a physical abilities test designed to measure candidates ability to perform the physical requirements of the job. A significant percentage of the work is performed within a government vehicle (either a delivery van or small truck). Some of the work is performed in an office setting, with the remainder of the time spent on loading docks or in records storage areas where physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, climbing 15' pulpit ladders, and lifting boxes of records weighing 30-50 lbs. is required. The work requires common physical abilities.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: For the GS-5, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:

  • Operating office automation programs for maintaining database information;

AND

  • Reviewing files or documents for completeness and compliance with established guidelines;

AND

  • Responding to customer inquiries, verbally or in writing.

OR

You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: 4 years above high school.

OR

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: You may qualify by a combination of experience and education.

NOTE: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.

Advancement to positions up to GS-5: Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-05 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment.

Education

Education Requirements: The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
