Duties

Help
  • Compiles information from field data and computes the mathematical portions of timber sale appraisals.
  • Assembles contract pages, and completes standard sale contracts, prospectus, and related documents from information in the timber sale appraisal and other sources.
  • Reviews documents in sale package to detect and correct any discrepancies in rates, dates, land descriptions, and other data.
  • May audit and submit scale tickets or tree measurement tally sheets, review computer output, and prepare reports as required by workload.
  • Prepares presale documents (as for large sale) from field data for review by small sales forester, assembles, duplicates, and mails invitations to bid.
  • Prepares documents for new bonds or bond changes.
  • Reviews monthly timber sale statements of account; detects and recommends correction of errors through sale accounting system.
  • Computes, audits, and summarizes tally sheets.
  • Ensures all transactions are input in the timber sale accounting system to maintain accurate financial records.
  • Answers inquiries about small sales program such as proposed sale volumes, locations, products, dates of offerings, etc.
  • Writes routine letters to permittees from brief verbal instructions.
  • Returns deposits to unsuccessful bidders and maintains required records.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. For more information on the qualifications for this position, visit the Office of Personnel Management's General Schedule Qualification Standards.

Specialized Experience Requirement:

For the GS-05: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 in the Federal service. OR Successful completion of a four (4) year course of study leading to a bachelors degree in an accredited Institution. OR A combination of education in excess of the first 60 semester hours of a course of study leading to a bachelors degree in an accredited institution and specialized experience.

Specialized experience is defined as two or more of the following: Inputting and auditing data processing documents; Checking accounting documents to ensure all payments are received, reviewing permit updates for payments, errors, and negative cash action; Maintaining various project files and records; and/or Drafting written correspondence.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education completed in foreign colleges and universities may be used if it has been accredited or evaluated by an organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Career Transition Assistance Plan (CTAP), Reemployment Priority List (RPL) or Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP): To exercise selection priority for this vacancy, CTAP/RPL/ICTAP candidates must meet the basic eligibility requirements and all selective factors. When assessed through a score-based category rating method, CTAP/ICTAP applicants must receive a rating of at least 85 out of a possible 100.
