Duties

Help

As an Equipment Specialist (Audio, Video, and Motion Picture Equipment Maintenance Specialist), you will:

  • Responsible for maintaining the equipment used by the Audio-Video and Motion Picture preservation laboratories to preserve and duplicate those media.
  • Independently assess, analyze, specify, repair, integrate, redesign, and calibrate electronic and electromechanical equipment and systems used in the Audio-Video and Motion Picture preservation laboratories.
  • Verify performance of end items by testing to established requirements. Recommend and/or initiate improvements to correct deficiencies. Utilize established methods and accepted practices to evaluate contractor's compliance with standards and procedures, and make recommendations to approve or for corrective actions to ensure that noted deficiencies are corrected.
  • Develop plans, training modules, user manuals and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for equipment maintenance, and on occasion implementation and use. Assist management asses technical training needs.
  • Evaluate and revise the technical aspects of broad equipment maintenance and logistical support plans.

  • Physical Demands: Work is mainly sedentary, with periods of time working at a computer or workbench and periods of time working in the various areas of the labs on electronic systems. The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; maintaining a stationary position or otherwise positioning oneself to access objects or equipment located in high and low places for periods of time; or lifting moderately electronic and mechanical assemblies or other items weighing less than 50. Work will involve the assembly and operation of all types of lab equipment on occasion.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

For the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Qualifying specialized experience must include all of the below:

  • Experience troubleshooting, repairing, and performing routine/preventative maintenance on professional moving image, and sound playback/capture equipment, which must include magnetic tape players; AND
  • Experience developing procedures for performing repairs, preventative maintenance, and improving reliability of professional moving image, and sound equipment; AND
  • Experience determining requirements needed for the long-term use of professional moving image and sound playback and capture equipment, including identifying service providers and stocking spare parts.
