The Electronics technician will serve as the Primary NIST Boulder Administrator and Technician for the Physical Access Control System (PACS) , responsible for administering the PACS software and hardware on the NIST Boulder Campus. This position will require an advanced knowledge of security hardware such as electronic latch sets, security control panels, monitoring devices such as Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), motion sensors, glass breaks, and door securing systems. Technician will be an expert in the configuration, installation, and maintenance of security software and hardware. Technician will perform duties without supervision to include design, operation, and maintenance of PACS system. Technician will be able to perform and instruct others on installation, operation, maintenance, and programming of associated devices and components, including installing IDS devices and electronic locks, keypads, and control panels, as well as issuing access and maintaining associated databases. Technician will have expert knowledge and skill with the use of power tools in respect to the performance of the installation of security locking mechanisms into materials such as wood, concrete and metal, as well as the creation of credentials and device programming. Expert knowledge and skill will be used to troubleshoot all hardware, wiring, devices, and software; respond to afterhours emergency requirements; review and make recommendations on construction activities on the NIST campus.

This position will include serving as a backup for Video Surveillance System Technician as well as NIST Boulder Locksmith technician. Backup duties will include assisting technicians in operating and troubleshooting the security systems on site, including assisting with the installation, operation, maintenance, and programing of devices such as cameras, associated devices, associated wiring, and security Hardware.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements- ZT-03: To qualify, applicants must have one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-8 (ZT-II at NIST) in federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience operating/maintaining security systems and hardware in an institutional, campus, or federal facility environment, understanding of electronics, experience in operating security systems. Carries out duties with minimal supervision.

OR

Two full years of graduate education or a master's degree directly related to the work of the position.

OR

A combination of experience and education directly related to the work of the position.

Basic Requirements- ZT-04: To qualify, applicant must have one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least a GS-10 (or ZT-III at NIST). Specialized experience is defined as experience operating/maintaining security systems and hardware in an institutional, campus, or federal facility environment, professional level understanding of electronics, experience operating HIRSCH PACS System. Carries out duties without supervision and recommends improvements to existing systems and processes.

In Addition: Valid Driver's License is required, and will be asked to provide proof at time of interview.
