Duties

Help

  • Serve as the policy lead for the Western Hemisphere undertaking special projects at the request of the Office of the Chief Executive and assists with formulation and implementation of major DFC policies, activities, and objectives.
  • Draft and clear policy papers, briefing memos, press guidance, correspondence, and other documents for use by Office of Chief Executive or other Principal-level meetings.
  • Monitor and analyze important regional or sectoral political and economic events, keeping senior leadership and regional working group informed of significant trends affecting U.S. national interests and DFC equities.
  • Regularly attend and represent DFC at inter-agency led meetings with identified organizational equities.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with relevant country and regional offices in adjacent U.S. government agencies and respective project leadership.
  • Manage a working group of representatives of each of DFC's line and functional offices to promulgate and receive information related to policy priorities and business leads.
  • Advance and coordinate inter-agency national security and foreign policy initiatives and strategic goals, in line with U.S. legislation, foreign policy, and security policy for the Western Hemisphere to ensure alignment in approach.
  • Participate in routine inter-agency meetings related to the Western Hemisphere.

Qualifications

Status candidates must meet time-in-grade requirements (52 weeks at the next lower grade level). Applicants must meet all eligibility and qualification requirements no later than the closing date of this announcement.

TIME-IN-GRADE
: Current career or career-conditional employees of the Federal government, or former career or career-conditional employees, who have a break in service of less than one year, are required to meet the time-in-grade restriction of one year of Federal experience at the next lower grade, with few exceptions outlined in 5 CFR 300.603(b).

You may qualify at the GS-14 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirements: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service developing foreign policy initiatives in Latin America and the Caribbean, including in any of the following areas: bilateral affairs, multilateral affairs, cross-cutting initiatives, infrastructure, climate adaptation and resilience, global health, energy, food security and agriculture, and/or small business support.

Note: Education is not substitutional at this grade level.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
