Duties

Help
  • Determine use of a variety of welding machines for metal pallet manufacturing.
  • Manufacture or repair common metal parts assemblies or components of electronic, hydraulic, mechanical, or other equipment, containers, structures or facilities.
  • Select proper tools, welding materials, heat range, feed for a variety of metals and thickness to provide proper weldments, penetration and fusion.
  • Safely operate various types of welding equipment.
  • Prepare area to be welded by cleaning, fitting, chipping, grinding, cutting, slag removal, and grinds welds when required.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires you possess and maintain a valid stateside driver's license.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position meets the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening and random testing.
  • This position must be able to obtain and maintain Welder Certification AWS D17.1 within 60 Days of employment.
  • This position is designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, you are required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.

Qualifications

About the Position: Employee will safely operate specified tools and welding equipment to produce dimensionally correct parts/products based on written or oral instructions, blueprints, sketches, and work orders.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Welder ~ without more than normal supervision. Must possess the ability to perform common Welder duties such as determining the welding techniques and machine settings to be used, assemble, and set up the parts to be welded, and make the required welds following guides such as resistance welding control charts, specifications, accepted shop practices and oral or written instructions. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORT
Will perform arduous duties which involves standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and crawling; and welding in hard-to-reach places may require awkward or cramped positions. May handle weights in excess of 50 pounds on occasion. The two person lift limit is 100 pounds and will only be used for single event, non-routine lifts.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS
Is exposed to such hazards as elevations, exposed electrical conductors, sharp edges, and toxic fumes with possibility of cuts, burns, shock, bruises, fractures, eye injury, electrical shock. Works both indoors and outdoors in all types of weather. May be subject to uncomfortable conditions such as extreme temperatures, poor illumination, poor ventilation, unpleasant odors, and dampness, but not for extended periods.
