Duties

Help

  • Shares with the Director responsibility for pursuit of optimum performance in all program areas established by the Secretary of Veterans Administration.
  • Responsible for the establishment of Regional Office policies and procedures consistent with nation mandates.
  • Provides executive leadership and direction for subordinates in the investigation and solution of problems arising in the Regional Office.
  • Delegates authority and responsibility in line with Veterans Administration policies and procedures to supervisory staff.
  • Facilitates efficient and effective management that ensures that benefits/services are provided timely and accurate.
  • Responsible for determining Regional Office goals and development of long and short-term plans to achieve these goals.
  • Allocates available resources among subordinate units and is responsible for the effective and economical use of these resources.
  • Establishes internal policy and procedures for the Regional Office to achieve effective coordination and communication with internal and external customers.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience: To qualify for the Assistant Director, GS-0340-15 position, you must have at least one 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-14) in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as work that involves: knowledge of a wide range of qualitative and quantitative methods for the assessment and improvement of program effectiveness or the improvement of complex management processes and systems; detailed knowledge of agency program goals and objectives, the sequence and timing of key program events and milestones, and methods of evaluating program accomplishments; knowledge of the department regulations associated with the administration of a top-level program to successfully implement required goals and objectives of the Office; and knowledge of administrative principles and techniques, pertinent administrative regulations, and standard administrative practices and procedures of the Department.

Time-in-grade Applicants who are/were federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. For a GS-15 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-14 level. To support your claim of time in grade, you must submit your most recent appointment, promotion, or within grade increase SF-50 (not an award or general adjustment SF-50). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily of a sedentary nature. There are occasional periods of walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items.
