Duties

Help

Under the supervision of the Lead Records Researcher, the incumbent:

  • Collects, accesses, and analyzes information within, and relevant to, federal records on civil rights cold cases.
  • Assists the Board with reviewing records obtained from federal agencies and other entities.
  • Conducts background research on specific civil rights cold cases, synthesizing information, providing comprehensive documentation and summaries of findings.

Qualifications

You qualify for the GS-12 grade level if you meet the following requirements:

You have at least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-11 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing the following duties:

  • Accessing government-held records to support program research; and
  • Conducting archival and/or investigative research using legal, newspaper and historical databases and archival finding aids.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the dates worked and total number of hours per week.

Education

Master's degree or higher in a relevant field (e.g. history, journalism, law, political science, library science, etc.) AND minimum of 1 year of relevant experience;

OR

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g. history, journalism, law, political science, library science, etc.) AND a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
