Duties

Help
  • You will coordinate the movement of maintenance crews and other land and water traffic
  • You will be responsible for the safety of personnel and property as well as aircraft and any boats or civilian personnel in the surrounding area.
  • You will ensure target areas are clear before allowing ordnance to be delivered and ensure the laser danger zone is clear before allowing aircraft or surface units to lase approved targets.
  • You will ensure that all necessary paperwork and record keeping is performed in a timely manner as instructed by the work leader and/or maintenance officer.
  • You will set up, take down, and operate a wide variety of electronics, computer, mechanical, and LASER equipment and must be able to train others to do the same.
  • You will be required to stay informed on current Air Station orders, directives, instructions, range policies, procedures, and maintenance instructions.

  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • You will be required to complete the Marine Net Range Safety Course (BASIC/LEVEL I) Distance learning Course and be designated as a Range Safety Officer.
  • You will be required to complete the Marine Net Range Laser Safety Course - Distance Learning and be designated as a Laser Range Safety Officer.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION SCREEN OUT ELEMENT: Perform common tasks including giving LASER Safety Briefs to new employees or range users. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

Additional information

Work assignments require light to moderate physical effort. May frequently lift, carry, or otherwise handle items weighing up to 40 pounds, and occasionally greater than 40 pounds.

Frequent standing, walking, climbing stairs, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping is required.

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Outdoors will be subjected to inclement weather and extremes in temperatures, noise, laser usage, venomous snakes and insects, electric shock, slippery or uneven surfaces. Various protective devices such as safety shoes, glasses, hearing protectors, gloves, and life jacket are used.

Dirt, grease, dampness, and fumes are frequently encountered.

A boat must be ridden to and from work.

This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
