About the Position: The U.S. Military Entrance Processing Command, with headquarters in North Chicago, IL, is a jointly staffed command and is staffed by representatives of all branches of the Armed Forces. The command, through its 65 military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS), determines whether applicants are qualified for enlistment based on standards set by each of the services.

Duties

Help
  • Coach, facilitate, resolve work problems and participate in the work of the MEPS Processing Element.
  • Provide input to supervisor on performance, progress, and training needs of employees, and on disciplinary problems.
  • Perform Human Resources Assistant duties identical to those led; Greets applicants, tracks enrollment, movement, and processing progress.
  • Certify that enlistment has been properly conducted by verifying system displayed contract is complete and all additional disclosed information has been supplied to the service representative.
  • Provide routine technical assistance or training to users of automated personnel database systems.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is designated as non-sensitive and requires a personal security background investigation.
  • Incumbent may be required to work an occasional Saturday and/or shift work (work before 0600 or after 1800 hours).
  • Incumbent may be required to work unscheduled overtime to accommodate fluctuations in workload based on the daily mission requirements.
  • Successful completion of applicable Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS Training is required in order to access the MHS GENESIS System within 30 days of on-boarding and/or as required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must clearly describe at least one year of experience, at the next lower grade level or equivalent, which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled including: 1) Providing administrative support to a Reception-Administration Control Desk; 2) Questioning applicants to obtain and/or verify complete data required for final data processing of forms records for entry into the organization; 3) Performing records management of electronic and paper applicant records; 4) Entering data in automated system(s) to record applicant processing information. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
