The Office of Strategic Coordination (OSC) -The Common Fund, Division of Program Coordination, Planning, and Strategic Initiatives (DPCPSI), Office of the Director, National Institutes of Health (NIH) seeks a Non-Supervisory Physician. The Common Fund supports bold scientific programs that catalyze discovery across all biomedical, social, and behavioral research. Our initiatives are intended to be high-impact and may accelerate emerging science, enhance the research workforce, or remove research roadblocks. More information about our programs' goals and achievements is available at https://commonfund.nih.gov.

The Physician position uses scientific and medical expertise to provide policy and programmatic recommendations for critical emerging and long-standing issues that impact clinical and translational research and data science. This includes identifying ways to better serve for NIH the needs of populations that experience health disparities that include racial and ethnic minority groups, people with lower socioeconomic status (SES), underserved rural communities, sexual and gender minority (SGM) groups, and people with disabilities to advance health equity, as well as healthy aging, health-related technology development, and social determinants of health.

The Physician position supports the program administration of NIH Common Fund's Community Partnerships to Advance Science for Society Program (ComPASS) program that enables community-driven, structural intervention research into sustainable solutions that promote health equity to create lasting change in communities across the nation. Other potential programmatic areas of assigned responsibility include Catalytic Data Resources (CDR) focused on leading innovative, high-priority, data-intensive initiatives or Transformational Science and Discovery (TSD) focused on new scientific principles, models, and research resources, to transform scientific knowledge and paths to discovery. The position is an opportunity to build professional skills and capabilities for Other Transactions, Challenge prizes and a variety of innovative funding mechanisms while working closely with a team of dynamic colleagues to develop and implement unique, forward-looking research programs. OSC is building a dynamic, integrated team with complementary expertise to innovate groundbreaking science.

Candidates must have a Doctor of Medicine, Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent degree for this position.

The ideal candidate will hold an active unrestricted medical license to practice in the United States, and have experience in clinical trials, implementation science, healthcare networks, FDA processes, community engagement, or IRBs.

  • Physician's Comparability Allowance of up to $30,000 per annum may be paid based on the selected physician's assignment, qualifications, experience, and duration of a negotiated service agreement.
