As a MACHINIST (DIE MANUFACTURER), you will troubleshoot and repair machine tools. The incumbent manufactures, repairs, and rebuilds parts, products, and items of equipment from raw stock of different metals, alloys, and other materials using a variety of machine tools.

Help

The following are the duties of this position at the WG-11. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties and will receive training to help you grow in this position.

  • Fabricate parts, products, and other items from blueprints, drawings, instructions, or samples.
  • Prepare machine tools, including conventional and specialized, automated, and/or other non-standard equipment, to accomplish fabrication processes.
  • Plan the sequence of operations for work that requires innovative set-ups, techniques, and tools.
  • Troubleshoot CNC machines. Edit programs by machining a sample, checking dimensional accuracy, and making corrections through manual input or changes to the program.
  • Plan and lay out work processes using shop mathematics to compute and verify dimensions.

  • Shift Work: This facility operates on a 24 hour per day, three-shift basis, 5 days a week. Work schedules may vary and assignment to a specific shift cannot be guaranteed. The successful applicant must be available to work on all three shifts on a rotational basis.
  • May be required to wear safety clothing and/or equipment required by the position. This may include safety shoes, hard hats, hearing protection, gloves, masks, etc.
  • Pass a pre-employment physical examination.
