Serving as a Law Enforcement intern makes you a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) team and mission.

The primary purpose of this position is for a Law Enforcement Internship: Designed for students who are interested in a career in law enforcement, you will be assigned a mentor from one of the FLETC training divisions. Half of your time will be spent auditing basic or advanced training programs. The remaining half of your time will be spent working on meaningful training-related research and writing projects under the guidance of your mentor.

Specific Requirements: Undergraduate Students

  1. Earned at least 90 semester hours (135 quarter hours) by the time of application. (Must supply all transcripts)
  2. Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4-point scale.

General Requirements:

  1. U.S. Citizenship.
  2. Remain enrolled with your academic institution during the course of the internship period;
  3. This program will run from June 1st, 2024 to July 26th, 2024 and you must be able to participate for the entire duration of the program.

Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications; applicant's resumes and supporting documentation should only reflect education received from schools accredited by such institutions. Background Investigation: To ensure the accomplishment of our mission, the FLETC requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully pass a background investigation for suitability as a condition of placement in this internship. This review may include financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs.

This announcement may be used to fill additional internships. This could result in a few or many internships being filled from this announcement.

College Intern Program (CIP) is an 8-week program hosted by FLETC that is open to U.S. citizens who are either undergraduate students with at least 90 semester hours (135 quarter hours) or graduate students. CIP participants are unpaid and do not receive a stipend or per diem.

  • Participants are solely responsible for any and all travel arrangements and expenses.
  • Participants expend half of their time auditing the training courses at their respective location, while the remaining half of their time is used to support their assigned branch, division, or directorate in furthering mission goals.
  • Housing and meals are provided to full-time participants selected for the Artesia, New Mexico; Charleston, South Carolina; and Glynco, Georgia, locations only and who are located outside the local commuting area.
  • Participants selected for the Cheltenham, Maryland location, will be responsible for their own housing and meals.
  • College credit(s) may be granted to the participant by their academic institution once they successfully complete the program.

You must maintain student eligibility and enrollment for the duration of the internship. This internship does NOT offer conversion to permanent employment. You will be required to complete the FLETC Student Volunteer Service Agreement and DHS Form 1000-6 Non-Disclosure Agreement if you are selected.

FLETC reserves the right to discontinue the College Intern Program (CIP) at any time for any reason.
