Duties

Help
  • You will maintain master fire alarms circuit prints by marking up changes or additions.
  • You will install, maintain and repair master fire alarm systems, including in-building mass notification systems.
  • You will analyze the operation of all modular components and adjusts or repairs as necessary to maintain fire alarm monitoring and transmitting equipment.
  • You will determine and evaluate circuitry and interrelationships, interaction, and interconnections of the circuits, assemblies, and system.
  • You will troubleshoot and repair malfunctions, improvising techniques and procedures as required to reach specified parameters.

  • May be required to serve as an on-call duty mechanic on a rotational basis. An on-call duty mechanic is required to carry a duty cell phone. Must remain available to respond onsite to after-hour emergencies within two hours, when on-call.

Qualifying experience must demonstrate the followingcomprehensive knowledge of operating electronic principles to troubleshoot, install, repair, and maintain malfunctions in complex electronic systems to include:
1) Interpreting complex drawings, specifications, and schematics of complete systems to specifically include the operation of fire alarm systems.
2) Reading and understanding circuit diagrams, cable route prints, and lines route map.
3) Troubleshooting and repairing difficult electrical problem by utilizing sound knowledge of the National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code.
4) Reading and understanding the various types of wiring diagrams, sketches, blueprints and drawings; and
5) Troubleshooting and diagnosing non-functional or malfunctioning alarm systems and consoles, isolating any defective electronic components using meter, probes and other electrical/electronic test equipment.

Must have a journeyman level knowledge of the trade theory, principles and practices of the following trades:- A recognized journeyman or craftsman-level qualification for FPS such as NICET;- A recognized journeyman or craftsman-level qualifications for fire alarm systems, such as a formalized labor organization-based journeyman training, or similar programs;- A qualification or license from any state (or local jurisdiction if delegated authority by the state) and supporting continuing education if required by the local jurisdiction.

This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Physical Effort: Moderate lifting up to 40 pounds is required. If a heavier lift is required, it must not be attempted without assistance. Must be able to work at a rapid pace for a short period of time. Occasionally required to perform work by stooping, bending and reaching while in cramped and uncomfortable positions and by walking, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Must be able to climb ladders and scaffolds to perform work at various heights. Normal vision is required.

Working Conditions: Some work is performed outside and may require exposure to prevailing weather conditions.Working conditions in this position vary with a portion performed in relatively pleasantsurroundings and a portion performed on rooftops, in equipment rooms, under buildings and inconfined spaces. Subject to perform work in areas with high noise levels where ear protection isrequired. Working in very hot and cold environments, poorly ventilated and lighted areas isoccasionally required and in some instances work in these conditions is for the duration of theshift. The incumbent may be exposed to fumes, dust, dirt, grease and oil, and is subject to thepossibility of scrapes, cuts, bruises, contusions, burns, electric shock and eye hazards
