Duties

Help

The selectee will serve as a Program Manager (Domestic Security Strategist) in the Office of Strategic Intelligence and Information, National Threat Assessment Center Division. Typical work assignments include:

  • Serves as an agency expert and information manager for the National Threat Assessment Center outreach, education, and consultative support at the federal, state, and local level; Controls, directs, and coordinates an agency program that provides Secret Service resources and support related to threat assessment and the prevention of targeted violence.

  • Establishes and maintains formal relationships and networks with mental health professionals, law enforcement personnel, government officials, school staff, university faculty, private industry, and other public safety officials to bolster awareness of the National Threat Assessment Center resources; Coordinates information-sharing projects, facilitates outreach events, and maintains awareness of targeted violence prevention efforts at the federal, state, and local levels.

  • Develops relationships and collaborates with state and local government officials for the purpose of supporting the public safety efforts of the agency and its partners.

  • Acts as a liaison between field personnel, headquarters programs, and component stakeholders to assess user needs and solutions, determine feasibility across a wide variety of criteria, and initiate capability development; Manages event scheduling and other logistical challenges to ensure delivery of National Threat Assessment Center research, training, and consultation products to regional partners.

  • Develops and presents executive-level briefings about agency programs across governmental and non-governmental organizations; Evaluates the effectiveness of agency programs while planning for long and short-range strategy programs.

NOTE: The person selected for this position may be subject to a one-year probationary period.

The Secret Service prohibits employees from having visible body markings (including but not limited to tattoos, body art, and branding) on the head, face, neck, hand and fingers (any area below the wrist bone) (exception: a single conservative and unobtrusive tattoo in the form of a ring is authorized on one finger). Employees who have observable piercings (other than ear lobe piercings) will be required to remove such piercings while engaging in job duties that require interaction with non-Secret Service entities and organizations and when on official travel.

Qualifications

GS-14: You qualify for the GS-14 level if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-13 level performing duties such as: managing public outreach and related logistics to ensure products, events, and other resources are successfully delivered to regional partners; developing and presenting executive-level briefings across government and non-governmental organizations; developing and maintaining networks with public safety professionals (e.g., law enforcement, school personnel, government officials, private industry, etc.); coordinating and facilitating outreach events to the community; evaluating the effectiveness of agency programs while planning for short and long range strategy programs; developing and implementing agency programs designed to support the public safety mission of the agency and its partners; and implementing comprehensive communication strategies to inform agency staff and other stakeholders concerning relevant initiatives and their results. 

Chicago, IL:  Starting Annual Salary GS-14 step 1 $136,414.00 potential to GS-14 step 10 $177,341.00.

Kansas City, MO:  Starting Annual Salary GS-14 step 1 $118,071.00; potential to GS-14 step 10 $153,490.00.


Time-in-Grade Requirements: Under competitive merit promotion procedures, any individual who is currently holding, or who has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under a non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet "time-in-grade" requirements (have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade of the grade for which you are applying). Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to current competitive service employees applying for a Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. NOTE: All current or former Federal employees must provide a copy of their SF-50 (you may need to submit more than one), "Notice of Personnel Action" that indicates proof of status and time-in-grade eligibility. The SF-50 must include your position, title, series, grade, step, tenure (1 or 2), and type of service (Competitive or Excepted). You may need to submit more than one SF-50 to comply.
