Duties

Help

  • Manages the tribal crime, justice and victimization portfolio in the Office of Justice Programs (OJP), National Institute of Justice (NIJ), Office of Violence and Victimization Prevention (OVVP).
  • Serves as a technical expert in tribal crime, justice and victimization and other related topics.
  • Performs a variety of analytical research, evaluation, program development, and other tasks in furtherance of the tribal crime, justice and victimization and other related portfolios in OVVP.
  • Serves as a technical expert for a significant segment of a social science focus area or program area and evaluated the scientific aspects of a wide variety of program grants, research-based grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements.

Qualifications

Basic Entry Requirements:

Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position;
-OR-
Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field;
-OR-
Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.


Specialized Experience:
Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level. Specialized experience is experience which is in or related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Examples of specialized experience include:

  • Provides guidance on the development and modification of research programs, data analysis, and scientific paper writing in the field of tribal crime.
  • Serves as an expert in tribal crime, justice, and victimization, leading peer review panels and formulating recommendations for funding.
  • Offers analysis and/or advice on tribal crime, justice, and victimization program issues, integrating current scientific knowledge and methods.
  • Reviews and/or conducts complex analyses, evaluations, and investigations in support of tribal crime, justice, and victimization programs.
