Summary

This position is located in the Office of Legislative, Intergovernmental and Public Affairs (OLIPA) is the primary liaison with Congress and the Office of Management and Budget, other Federal criminal justice agencies, and the District of Columbia government. It is also the primary point of contact for media inquiries. OLIPA also develops and implements community outreach to facilitate the successful administration of CSOSA programs.

The position is not covered under law enforcement retirement.

Duties

Help

Develops community outreach, support and public information initiatives that are designed to facilitate community-oriented criminal justice supervision programs. These programs are designed to increase offender accountability, respond to community concerns, and enhance public safety.

Performs work related to developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders in various levels of government, private industry, and/or academic institutions to communicate and disseminate information about program mission and activities.

Advise and provides guidance, including interpretations, opinions, or decisions, regarding programs or policies. Consultations involve assessment of program or policy conditions, phenomena, or anomalies.

Prepares written and oral status reports to apprise supervisor of community response and community needs, and to respond to community concerns and program adjustments necessary to meet specific community priorities.

Keeps CSOSA leadership and members of the community apprised of the status of programs, community responses, and community needs by tracking programs/initiatives' progress, and by developing and submitting status reports. Assesses success of community relations programs, identifies problem areas, and develops adjustments as necessary.

Represents the Agency at meetings with government agencies, the business community, academic institutions, and community organizations, contributing leadership, information, and assistance as appropriate to advance the Agency's mission and support the work of our stakeholders and partners.

Plans and/or supports committees, boards, symposia, or conferences.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-13 level if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service that demonstrates your ability to develop and implement community outreach to facilitate the successful administration of agency programs; plan and conduct public meetings, briefings, and other community relations activities in support of organizational programs. Review information and reconcile conflicting data; devise new or modified methods of analyzing findings; or developing new initiatives in community relations programs.

Time-in-Grade: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement. Applicant must have served 52 weeks as a GS-12 or higher grade in Federal Service.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education is not substitutable for specialized experience at this grade level.
