About the Position: The Anniston Army Depot is located in Anniston, Alabama in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain chain halfway between Atlanta, GA and Birmingham, AL just off Interstate 20. The Depot is the largest employer in Calhoun County with approximately 4000 employees.

Duties

Help
  • Perform welder duties using electric, acetylene or inert gas shielded welding processes.
  • Operate a variety of welding equipment, including stud machines, power tools and other tools according to regulations.
  • Remove, refit, and replace the damaged parts of wood components according to procedures.
  • Sand and refinish surfaces suitable for painting to accomplish projects.
  • Fabricate metal items for a variety of equipment such as small arms weapons, artillery, combat, and tactical vehicles.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the successful completion of various welder qualification tests in accordance with the most current AWS (American Welding Society) and military welding code and/or standard that is applicable to the current workload.
  • This position requires fillet certification in accordance with military specifications.
  • This position requires shift work.
  • Federal Wage System employees, WG/WL/WS etc, must satisfactorily complete the appropriate annual Depot Medical Examination.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Welder ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common duties including: utilizing light and heavy gages, and hardened metals to weld assigned items, using flat vertical, horizontal and overhead positions to prevent overheating and distortion. Failure to meet this Screen-Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort: Work involves standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and crawling. occasionally work is performed in awkward and hard to reach places. Frequently lifts items weighing 15 - 40 pounds and occasionally items over 45 pounds.
  • Working Conditions: Most of work is performed in building that is moderately lighted, heated and ventilated. Incumbent is exposed to fumes, heat, flying sparks, the glare of torches, and heated materials; possibility of eye injury, electrical shock, broken bones, and the chance of cuts when working with sharp objects; and discomforts when wearing protective clothing, gloves and flash shield.
