Summary

The Research Directorate at Langley Research Center is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Branch Head in the Supersonic/Hypersonic Testing Branch. The incumbent is part of the branch leadership team and is responsible for providing administrative and technical supervision to a technician work force supporting a wide variety of ground-based test wind tunnels and laboratories performing basic fundamental flow physics research and advanced aerospace developmental testing.

Help
  • Provides occupational specific technical and administrative guidance, coordinates with employees to organize assigned work, and mentors the workforce across multiple facilities.
  • Obtains resources and identifies strategic objectives for the organization.
  • Provides employees resources and information that ensures a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Develops long-range strategic management plans for efficient and effective implementation and administration of major Center programs involving experimental wind tunnel testing.
  • Provides advisory services to the assigned specialty areas to those who design, test, produce, research, procure, supply, operate, repair, or dispose of the equipment.
  • Leads or actively participates in meetings with contractors, suppliers, users, and/or repairers of equipment to develop overall equipment support plans.

Qualifications

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.


To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level.
  • Conducting the operation, maintenance, repair and enhancement of wind tunnel facilities and subsystems;
  • Leading in technical problem investigations, troubleshooting, and issue resolution activities involving ground testing support equipment and facilities;
  • Leading the operational capability of assigned facilities to ensure operational procedures, configuration mandates and standards of facility operation and operation of experimental devices are followed.
