This is a Flexible Renewable Term Appointment Position Not to Exceed 6 years. This position may be extended, without limit, in up to 6-year increments and may be converted to permanent appointment without further competition.

Duties

Help
  • Performs real time monitoring equipment and solid sorbent tubes operations in support of the CBC Agent Monitoring program for the presence of toxic chemical agents.
  • Maintains close liaisons with personnel in operating directorates, offices and tenant activities requiring monitoring for chemical surety materials and operations.
  • Test and operate equipment used in the production, handling and destruction of chemical and biological munitions and related items including transportation, set-up, systemization, calibration, maintenance, operation and demobilization.
  • Plans, schedules, assures timely accomplishment of work and carries through technical aspects of laboratory, test chamber and storage site monitoring.
  • Travels to formerly utilized defense facilities (FUD sites) to support remediation efforts.
  • Services and repairs all equipment breakdowns by replacing defective parts and making corrective adjustments to functioning parts.

  • Business travel (TDY) may be required up to 50% of the time
  • Position requires certification in the Biological Personnel Reliability Program (BPRP) and/or the Chemical Personnel Reliability Program (CPRP), IAW AR 50-1 and/or AR 50-6.
  • Position requires random drug testing and medical evaluation IAW AR 50-1 and/or AR 50-6.
  • This position requires recurring lifting of light to moderately heavy items weighing less than 50 pounds such as testing or measuring equipment.
  • Pre-employment physical required.
  • One year trial period may be required.
  • Position requires the incumbent to obrtain and maintain a CDL, class B with Hazmat endorsement.
  • This position requires the incumbent to work under extreme outdoor weather conditions, exposure to rain and temperatures exceeding 100F and below 40F, performs work in impermeable PPE in temperatures that could exceed 80F.
  • Required to wear special protective clothing and using protective equipment.

Qualifications

This is a Standing Register (Open Continuous) announcement. The initial cut-off date to evaluate candidates will be 15 days after announcement opens and as needed thereafter. Announcement will be opened for six months. In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Conducting inspections of mechanical systems and interpreting mechanical plans and specifications; 2) Analyzing output from instrumentation and detectors to determine equipment malfunctions and recommend corrective actions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade level/position in the federal service (GS-06)

This position will be filled at the GS-07 grade level. The candidate selected for this position at the GS-07 grade level will be non-competitively promoted to the GS-08 grade level, then the GS-09 grade level, then the GS-10 grade level, and to the target grade of GS-11 upon completion of the following requirements: (a) satisfactory demonstration of ability to perform at the higher-grade level; (b) recommendation for promotion by supervisor; and (c) completion of all OPM qualifications, including time in grade and all conditions of employment.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this grade level (GS-11), you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
