Duties

Help
  • Check clean linen for obvious tears or damage and sorts unacceptable (stained) material for return to laundry.
  • Count and/or weigh and document the count and/or weight of the clean linen received from, and the soiled linen sent to, the contract laundry service.
  • Assist with required linen inventories and other linen related duties.
  • Contacts are with military and civilian staff, patients and visitors on occasion and contract laundry personnel.
  • Responsible for cleaning the assigned linen service spaces in accordance with good housekeeping practices.
  • Ensure that government owned uniforms and employee uniforms are controlled.
  • Advise the Linen Control Leading Petty Officer on low stock levels, unserviceable and badly damaged linen and linen that is not being used.
  • Replenish stock of linen to predetermined levels in storage spaces in specialized areas such as outpatient clinics, doctors' offices, etc.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • This position has a requirement to lift 50 up to 100 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position may be designated "Mission Essential." in the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent may be required to report to work or remain at work.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
  • Required to obtain a government motor vehicle operator's license to deliver and pick up linen from the warehouse or laundry.
  • The Linen Room operates Monday through Saturday. Incumbent will be required to work on Saturday for a three-month period. Saturday shift rotates among employees every three months.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.


Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n)Linen Control Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. Perform common work related operations to include receipt, storage, alteration, issue and shipment of linen items; analyzing instructions received to ensure all personnel; schedules semi-annual inventories of all hospital linen used in patient care environment; oversee the coordinating of daily transportation procedures for pick up/delivery of linen to and from laundry utilizing a motor vehicle and materials and equipment are available at the work site; and assuring equipment are utilized properly - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Frequently required to lift bundles of linen weighing 50 to 100 pounds assisted or unassisted. Incumbent is also required to bend and stoop to clean linen carts and unload same. Must be able to pull and guide linen carts with weights up to 500 pounds. Will be required to climb ladders, operate, and push both heavy and light weight equipment. Also, incumbent is required to operate a buffer to strip and finish floors.


Working Conditions: Will be subject to hazards involved in moving carts, maneuvering them in the crowded passageways and service elevators. May come in contact with contaminated linen if proper precautions are not taken. When counting contaminated linen incumbent will wear personal protective equipment (PPE) which is provided. Necessary precautions also must be taken when handling heavy loads. Ninety percent of the incumbent's time is spent inside buildings with favorable working conditions. May be subject to burns from repair equipment. The Linen Room operates Monday through Saturday. Incumbent will be required to work on Saturday for a three-month period. Saturday shift rotates among employees every three months.
