Summary

About the Position: This position is with the US Army Corps of Engineers, Institute for Water Resources (IWR), Alexandria, VA.

This position will be filled on a permanent basis. Position is being filled at the GS-12 or target GS-13 grade levels.

Help
  • Coordinate study/research efforts with appropriate individuals within the organization by conveying/communicating ideas orally and in writing.
  • Present results of research and/or studies at in-house and interagency, professional society, academic, and/or industry workshops and conferences.
  • Address water resources policy problems by developing solutions to where precedents are not always applicable.
  • Utilize a systems perspective to problems solving, through expert knowledge of integrated water resources planning.
  • Conduct studies to develop improvements and establish guidance, for field offices engaged in the conduct of a Nation-wide water resources program.
  • Conduct technical studies and survey national trends as part of broader investigations.
  • Establish proposals for new water resources policies or procedures.

In addition to meeting the education requirements for one of the above series, you must also meet the following:

Experience required for the GS-12 Grade Level: One year of specialized experience which includes: Participates as a member of a multi-disciplinary study, project, and/or research teams, and intergovernmental project delivery teams to address water resources policy problems. Aiding in developing problem solving approaches and defends analysis and findings. Assisting senior employees, undertakes analysis and development of analytical methods for water and environmental resources systems analysis. Develops training modules for special workshops topics in environmental and water resources systems engineering, modeling, and risk analysis. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Experience required for the GS-13 Grade Level: One year of specialized experience which includes: Conducts research-oriented studies in search of developing improvements and guidance for the conduct of a nationwide water resources program. Provides expertise and research requiring the evaluation of state-of-the-art methods and procedures that deal with unique or emerging water resources and related environmental planning problems. Analyzes assigned problems and develops organized plans for orderly and timely accomplishment. Prepares analysis of findings and related recommendations with detailed explanations of new procedural concepts or analytical technique. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Time in Grade Requirement for GS-12: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).

Time in Grade Requirement for GS-13: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
