Summary

As a Supervisory Architect, you will Serves as the Branch Chief of the Center for Architecture to ensure that performance objectives of the Office for efficiency, effectiveness, and quality are achieved in support of General Services Administration (GSA) nationwide design and construction program.

Help

  • Provide visionary, national leadership and high level technical policy direction for the agency regarding design quality and innovation, design excellence, and cost effectiveness in Federal design. Responsible for justifying, defending, influencing, negotiating and informing the Chief Architect and Deputy Chief Architect, as appropriate and directed by the Chief Architect, senior management officials within GSA, key officials from other government agencies, industry leaders and representatives, the heads of professional industry and trade associations, state and local governments, and the public, about policy, legislative, and programmatic considerations that significantly impact the nationwide design program.
  • Develops and oversees implementation of broad national design program objectives, and provides advice and consultant support regarding architecture and design issues to senior GSA officials, GSA regional management officials, executive branch agencies, and the judiciary.
  • Provides expert recommendations on complex, unusual architectural designs, issues, and situations; interprets and explains advanced concepts and diverse information in relation to building and design professions such as landscape architecture or related engineering science disciplines (e.g., mechanical, electrical, structural, fire protection, safety, and civil); evaluates, advises, and incorporates latest developments in the design and construction of office and public buildings into agency policy requirements and program objectives for design and construction activities.
  • Exercises overall supervision over establishment and management of the position structure,; which will best serve mission needs, by providing the optimum balance between such elements as economy, efficiency, skills utilization, programs such as Equal Employment Opportunities (EEO), Affirmative Action, etc.
  • Plans work schedules, to assure an even flow and distribution of work; makes changes in organization of work or assignment of functions to positions to improve workflow and productivity. Formulates and issues verbal guidance or written instructions and procedures for nonroutine or complex assignments.

The GS-14 salary range starts at $122,198 per year.  

BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR ARCHITECTS: A Degree in architecture or related field; OR a combination of college-level education, training, and/or technical experience. For specifics on qualifying education, training, and/or experience - use the following link: Basic Requirements for Architect Positions.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:  

In addition to the Basic Requirements listed above, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is professional work in the design and/or project management of major architectural projects (including representation of either owner or tenant in the execution of major large-scale architectural projects, or design management of a multi-project building program); developing and implementing policy and procedures, including analyzing and monitoring programs or policies; presenting complex issues and providing recommendations to senior management and developing and maintaining a system of management and internal controls.

  2. Expert knowledge of the full range of qualitative and quantitative analysis techniques and methodologies is required. Ability to assess project requirements and develop recommendations that meet goals, as well as integrate the goals and objectives of various other stakeholders.
  3. Mastery of professional architectural and engineering principles, concepts and practices applicable to a full range of design, layout, construction, repair and/or alterations to a variety of complex structures such as office buildings, courthouses, or special use facilities.
  4. Knowledge of supervision and oversight of the office.
  5. Skill in allocating fiscal, staff, and time resources to produce maximum results.
