Summary

This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT for Nursing Assistant (NA's) vacancies in the Community Living Center (CLC) at the Butler VA Medical Center. Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.)/Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (U.A.P.) is an individual who delivers age specific care to adult Veterans according to established policies and procedures under the direct supervision of a registered nurse (RN).

This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until September 30, 2024. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be December 29, 2023, with subsequent cut-off dates each week. Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur on an as-needed basis until positions are filled.

Major Duties:

  • Recognizes the normal aging process and responds to meet the age specific needs of the Veterans including sensory/perceptual changes and physical needs for food, water, air, elimination, rest, sleep and activity.
  • Provide resident centered - care, which is driven by the needs, preferences and lifelong habits of the residents. Care is individualized to each resident, and the resident is a participant in their own care when possible.
  • Correctly identifies Veterans by using two specific personal identifiers.
  • Provides timely verbal reports regarding results of care or changes in Veteran's condition to the RN.
  • Documents nursing care according to established nursing policy and procedures, in the written patient care books and/or in the electronic nursing care programs known as CareTracker and/or CPRS.
  • Maintains good public relations and communicates effectively with the Veterans, their families, community organizations and unit coworkers.
  • Respects privacy and maintains confidentiality.
  • Meets the needs of customers both internally and externally while supporting the VA mission.
  • Consistently communicates and treats customers (investigators, their representatives, visitors, and all VA staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Completion of all requirements necessary for graduation from an established Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A) Program.
  • Completion of all specific education and internally developed training for advancement toward the Unlicensed Assistive Personnel designation (U.A.P.)
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).

Grade Determinations:
  • GS-3; High School Diploma
  • GS-4; 2 Years Above High School
  • GS-5; 1 year equivalent to at least GS- 4

Additional information

Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
