As a Security Specialist and the Special Security Officer within the Protective Services Division, coordinates all aspects of planning, operation and direction for National Security and the Special Security Office at the Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC).
Duties described below are at the highest grade advertised. Duties assigned at lower grade levels will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee.
Provides policy and guidance interpretation to Goddard organizations, projects, and programs in the areas of National Security, Information Security, Sensitive Compartmented Facilities Operations and Certifications.
Serves as an advisor to the Chief of Protective Services on all special security programs and National Security.
Develops appropriate safeguards and policies and ensuring that appropriate functions for multiple Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIF’s) classified document control, storage, transmittal, and destruction procedures.
Implements the Information Security Program for Goddard Space Flight Center, to include developing appropriate safeguards and policies, and ensuring that appropriate classified document control, storage, transmittal, and destruction procedures.
Provides guidance in the implementation of the Special Security Program, to include developing appropriate safeguards and ensuring classified document control, storage, transmittal, and destruction of national security information.
Develops appropriate Information Security policies and provide classification guidance. Manages all Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities and serves as Special Security Officer for the certification of all secure systems.
Coordinates with Management relative to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) issues, clearance determinations, and other activities. Ensures personnel are aware of security regulations and serves as the authority for all SCI-related matters.
Provides technical and administrative guidance in the implementation of multi-security discipline programs.

Qualifications
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
To qualify for GS-12, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level:
Providing oversight and guidance relating to information security and national security;
Providing guidance on classified contracts for industrial security processes;
Providing guidance on the operations for Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities.
