12 - Grade 12 - Students may be promoted up to the GS-05 level while in the Intern program, and students who successfully complete the program may be eligible for conversion to a permanent job in the civil service, up to grade GS-12.
Students: Current students enrolled at least half-time in an accredited college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate.
As an intern, you will be introduced and provided work experience and knowledge of functions and operations of a specific PBS Division. Typical duties may include any of the following:
Review project information including existing technical reports, project drawings and/or specifications to learn the customer, operational and technical needs.
Prepare preliminary drawings and other basic presentation materials related to planning and design studies executed in association with routine, smaller, less complex projects.
Analyze, compile, correlate, and reconcile technical data from a variety of sources to include in routine reports.
Update contract files.
Accompany senior architects/engineers to visit building sites to learn the inspection process.
Signed participant agreement is required for employment under this Program.

If selected, you must meet the following conditions:
Provide a copy of your most recent transcripts (unofficial) at the end of each academic year, or upon request, for verification of enrollment and academic standing.
Register with the Selective Service, if you are a male born after 12/31/1959.
Serve in a trial period for the entire duration of the internship appointment.
Undergo and pass a background investigation (Tier 1 investigation level).
Have your identity and work status eligibility verified if you are not a GSA employee. We will use the Department of Homeland Security’s e-Verify system for this. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of continued employment.
Have a valid driver's license.
Additionally, if you participate in our Pathways Intern program, you will be required to:
Receive formal training directly linked to your employment field in addition to some skill training
Serve a trial period, which will allow your supervisor to evaluate your conduct and performance on the job and determine if our appointment will become final
Sign a participant agreement
Work full-time for a large block of time for of at least 10 weeks
Commit to working part-time during the school year to complete the required 640 hours before graduating.
Qualifications
The GS-4 salary range starts at $33,693.00 if you meet the following qualifications. You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
To qualify at the GS-4 level, you must have completed at least two full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree in a qualifying program.
Education
Students: Current students enrolled at least half-time in an accredited college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate.
Qualifying educational institutions/programs for Pathways include: at least two full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree in a qualifying architecture or engineering program.
In order to be placed in a permanent position after completing the Pathways Intern program, you must: 1. Meet the qualification requirements for the position you are being placed in. 2. Maintain an acceptable performance under GSA's approved performance management system. 3. Receive a favorable recommendation from your supervisor at the end of the program. 4. Meet all the training and development requirements outlined in the GSA Pathways policy.
GSA is not obligated to make an offer of permanent employment to you after you have completed the Program.
