Summary

We are looking for students to hire into Pathways Intern Program.  This program facilitates the college-to-career transition by providing opportunities in a variety of career tracks.

Location of position: Public Buildings Service, Design and Construction Division. The duty station will be a region 3 building decided upon selection.

Duties

Help

As an intern, you will be introduced and provided work experience and knowledge of functions and operations of a specific PBS Division. Typical duties may include any of the following:

  • Review project information including existing technical reports, project drawings and/or specifications to learn the customer, operational and technical needs.
  • Prepare preliminary drawings and other basic presentation materials related to planning and design studies executed in association with routine, smaller, less complex projects.
  • Analyze, compile, correlate, and reconcile technical data from a variety of sources to include in routine reports.
  • Update contract files.
  • Accompany senior architects/engineers to visit building sites to learn the inspection process.

If selected, you must meet the following conditions:

  • Provide a copy of your most recent transcripts (unofficial) at the end of each academic year, or upon request, for verification of enrollment and academic standing.
  • Register with the Selective Service, if you are a male born after 12/31/1959.
  • Serve in a trial period for the entire duration of the internship appointment.
  • Undergo and pass a background investigation (Tier 1 investigation level).
  • Have your identity and work status eligibility verified if you are not a GSA employee.  We will use the Department of Homeland Security’s e-Verify system for this. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of continued employment.
  • Have a valid driver's license.

Additionally, if you participate in our Pathways Intern program, you will be required to:

  • Receive formal training directly linked to your employment field in addition to some skill training
  • Serve a trial period, which will allow your supervisor to evaluate your conduct and performance on the job and determine if our appointment will become final
  • Sign a participant agreement
  • Work full-time for a large block of time for of at least 10 weeks
  • Commit to working part-time during the school year to complete the required 640 hours before graduating.

Qualifications

The GS-4 salary range starts at $33,693.00 if you meet the following qualifications. You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.

To qualify at the GS-4 level, you must have completed at least two full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree in a qualifying program.

Education

Qualifying educational institutions/programs for Pathways include: at least two full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree in a qualifying architecture or engineering program.

In order to be placed in a permanent position after completing the Pathways Intern program, you must:
1. Meet the qualification requirements for the position you are being placed in.
2. Maintain an acceptable performance under GSA's approved performance management system.
3. Receive a favorable recommendation from your supervisor at the end of the program.
4. Meet all the training and development requirements outlined in the GSA Pathways policy.

GSA is not obligated to make an offer of permanent employment to you after you have completed the Program.

Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses are not authorized for this position.  Any travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the responsibility of the successful applicant.

  1. Developmental knowledge of the organization’s architectural/engineering programs and operations.
  2. Skill in performing basic research and assignments associated with architectural/engineering functions.
  3. Practical knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of architecture/engineering in order to perform routine technical work.
  4. Skill in analyzing, compiling, correlating, and reconciling data from a variety of sources.
  5. Knowledge of and ability to use applicable agency engineering/architectural automated design software to gather, format and analyze various engineering/architectural data and information.
  6. Skill in performing basic research and assignments associated with administrative office support or general business functions.
  7. Ability to communicate orally and in writing to communicate factual information and address general program or procedural issues.
  8. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with managers and gain cooperation from others.
  • Your answers to the questions will be used to place you in one of three categories: Best Qualified, Well Qualified, or Qualified.
  • We will verify your answers to the questions in your resume. If your resume doesn’t support your answers, we may lower your score, which could place you in a lower category.
  • Within each category, veterans will receive selection priority over non-veterans.
