Summary

This position is located with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Center for Agricultural Research Service (CARR), Ft. Collins, CO.

In this position, you will serve as the Long Term Agroecosystem Research (LTAR) Coordinator, providing network support through organizational coordination and support, and internal and external communications.

This is a temporary, time-limited appointment with an initial duration no less than 13 months and can be extended up to a total of 10 years.

Duties

Help
  • Coordinates network-level strategic plan implementation through communications among the LTAR Leadership Team, network sites, working groups, and projects.
  • Leads the coordination of communications and lists of members of regional and national stakeholder groups for identifying gaps in LTAR network research and prioritizing research needs.
  • Develops tracking strategies (e.g., dashboards) to document adoption and impact of LTAR research, including dissemination of major network accomplishments.
  • Works with the Leadership Team to coordinate improvements in the various aspects of strategic plan implementation, organizational structure, operational procedures, and internal and external communications.
  • Facilitates research collaborations within the LTAR network through proactive meetings on contemporary topics and connecting new LTAR network scientists with others in the network in similar disciplines.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.

Basic Requirements for General Physical Science Series, 1301:
A. Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience: education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Basic Requirements for General Natural Resources Management and Biological Sciences Series, 0401
A. Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, ecology, agronomy, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Specialized Experience:
Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-12 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-11 which is directly related to the work of this position, and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience working with diverse groups of multidisciplinary scientists and leadership teams to implement strategic scientific research plans; developing detailed presentations to explain the work and its relationship to stakeholders, other scientific networks, state and federal land managers; and planning, organizing, and conducting research, education, and outreach to accomplish project goals and objectives in support of climate change impacts on agroecosystems.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

  • This Position is being filled through OPM's government-wide Direct-Hire Authority for this occupation and is open to all U.S. Citizens.
