Duties

Help

As an ARCHIVES TECHNICIAN, you will:

  • Perform support work for the accession, allocation, arrangement, storage, maintenance, and servicing of records.
  • Complete detailed reviews of records being processed into the facility. Obtain pertinent information from these records to complete data entry in the Military Personnel Records registry housed in the Archives and Records Centers Information System (ARCIS).
  • Coordinate with multiple offices within the facility to collect reconstructed, newly accessioned, and misplaced military personnel records, to create registry entries and appropriately file all records according to standard records center procedures.
  • Perform routine maintenance in records holdings areas of shelving units, safety equipment, and records transportation devices.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.   • Must successfully complete a background investigation.

  • Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form i-9. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S.
  • Must be able to climb caster-equipped ladders and handle thereon boxes of records weighing up to 50 pounds that are stored up to 14 feet above the floor. Considerable standing, walking, bending, and lifting are essential requirements of the position. Incumbent must have the ability to operate a motor vehicle, motorized forklift, and electric pallet jack.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

General Experience: For the GS-04, you may qualify with one year of general experience. General experience for this position includes:

One full year of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.

OR

Education:
You may substitute education for general or specialized experience as follows: Completion of 2 years above high school.

OR

You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. To combine education and experience, the total percentage of qualifying experience at the required grade level compared to the experience requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the education requirement must equal at least 100 percent.
