Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Analyzes and defines network and/or server requirements.
  • Defines and maintains network architecture and infrastructure.
  • Configures and optimizes network routers, firewalls, switches, and servers.
  • Analyzes network workload.
  • Monitors network and/or server capacity and performance.
  • Configures and optimizes network and environment monitoring tools.
  • Configures and optimizes Windows and/or Linux systems.
  • Configures and optimizes wireless environment to include controllers and APs.
  • Diagnoses and resolves network and server problems.
  • Develops network and/or server backup and recovery procedures.
  • Installs, tests, maintains, and upgrades network and/or server operating systems software.
  • Ensures the rigorous application of information security/ information assurance policies, principles, and practices in the delivery of network services.

Qualifications

Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree from an accredited College or University in computer science, information science, information systems management, mathematics, statistics, operations research, or engineering or A degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks or Three years' specialized IT experience with an emphasis in computer hardware and operating system software, implementation and sustainment.

A qualified candidate possesses the following:

  • Knowledge of and skill in applying network design principles and concepts.
  • Knowledge of configuration management concepts and practices.
  • Knowledge of network topology concepts.
  • Knowledge of network development principles and methods sufficient to develop and implement configuration management plans for complex, global networks.
  • Knowledge of network administrator role and responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of optimal and secure configuration of switches, routers, firewalls, Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), and other networking equipment.
  • Knowledge of enterprise networkssufficient to develop requirements for the acquisition of network hardware, software, and services.
  • Knowledge of Windows and/or Linux operating systems sufficient to administer and maintain various types of servers
  • Knowledge of cloud-based environments including IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS service models.
  • Knowledge of virtual environments, to include hypervisors, SANs, Blades, and Hyper-converged systems
  • Skill in monitoring network and/or server performance.
  • Skill in analyzing network traffic patterns.
  • Skill in installing network and/or software fixes and upgrades.
  • Skill in analyzing/evaluating data and preparing reports.
  • Ability to serve as network administrator.
  • Ability to perform network diagnostics.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Education

A qualified candidate possess one of the following:

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited College or University in computer science, information science, information systems management, mathematics, statistics, operations research, or engineering.


A degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

Three years' specialized IT experience with an emphasis in computer hardware and operating system software, implementation and sustainment.
Examples of specialized network and/or server engineering or administrator experience include: configuring network devices and/or servers for optimal performance and security; configuring and operating patch management process or software; configuring Windows domain services including DC, AD, DNS, DHCP; managing virtual environments, including hypervisors, SANs, blades, hyper-converged systems; managing cloud-based environments including IaaS, PaaS and SaaS service models; and/or configuring and monitoring the secure operation of switches, routers, firewalls, VPNs and other wired and wireless networking equipment.
