Duties

Help
  • Serves as licensed motorboat operator of the survey vessel Maurer.
  • Operates vessel while conducting hydrographic surveys on various waterways.
  • Maintains vessel operation logs and reports vessel usage and accurately reports vessel project work codes monthly for all vessels.
  • Performs maintenance on all vessels operated.
  • Assists mechanics with coordination during major maintenance and works with shipyard personnel during repairs.

  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to undergo periodic physical examinations and/or evaluations under the District Medical Surveillance Program and may require the use of personal protective clothing or equipment.
  • This position is Emergency Employee (E-E).
  • This position has been designated as meeting the criteria for random drug testing under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Workplace Program.
  • Must be able to acquire and maintain a CDL. This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain Commercial Driver’s License with in six month of employment.
  • The position also requires a minimum of a 100 ton USCG Near Coastal Motorboat Operator’s license (required at time of application).

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work as a Small Craft Operator without more than normal supervision which includes: 1) Operating vessels in large amounts of water-borne traffic and shallow water, surf zones, and through hazardous areas, AND 2) Maintaining vessel operation logs and vessel usage reports, AND 3) Assists with and reports maintenance on all vessels operated.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Moderate physical effort is required in operating the boat, loading and unloading equipment, making repairs and adjustments, and in the performance of miscellaneous duties. Occasionally strenuous or prolonged repeated physical effort may be required when operating in hazardous areas such as surf zones.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in all kinds of weather. Subject to dirt, grease, cuts and bruises when performing maintenance and repair work. Danger of drowning exists in event of collision with floating and submerged obstructions due to necessity of operating in hazardous areas such as near rock jetties and in shoal water. Additional hazards may be encountered in areas frequented by unlicensed private vessel operators who have little knowledge of the professional navigation rules. Night operations are occasionally required and require additional attention and extended hours.
