The following are the duties of this position at the full working level. If this vacancy includes more than one grade and you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and receive training to help you grow in this position.

  • Plans, schedules, and controls the processing of tax data on major corporate and departmental computer systems.
  • Analyzes and evaluates requirements for computer processing by identifying work flow and sequence equipment and capacity requirements, and job interrelationships.
  • Reviews system reports and logs to identify scheduling conflicts, processing problems, or job failures and determines corrective action. Ensures correct restoration of data files and data bases at the proper restart point.
  • Receives program additions, deletions and changes from programmers and various external sources. Evaluates systems change requests to determine modifications to existing set-ups, schedules, run streams, and dependencies with other systems and programs.
  • May serve as OJT or formal classroom instructor.

  • Must successfully complete a background investigation, including a FBI criminal history record check (fingerprint check).
  • Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
  • Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S. These documents must be unexpired original or certified copies.

Qualifications

Federal experience is not required. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-timework is considered on a prorated basis. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-08: To be eligible for this position at this grade level, you must meet the basic requirements below. To be minimally qualified at the GS-08 grade level, you must have one year or twelve (12) months of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-7) in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that is related to the work of this position and has provided you with the competencies required for successful job performance. Examples of qualifying experience may have been gained in positions:

  • Dealing with computer terminology, processing methods, controls, media and data flow; or experience requiring proficiency in translating actions into a computer programming language (COBOL, FORTRAN, ALGOL, etc.).
  • Scheduling and providing technical computer assistance, support, service, training and advice concerning hardware/software issues to customers.
  • Operating, configuring, upgrading installing, modifying and maintaining computer hardware and software.
  • Installing, upgrading and maintaining software; and monitoring LAN security configurations; performing daily back-up procedures of LAN files.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-09: To be eligible for this position at this grade level, you must meet the basic requirements below. To be minimally qualified at the GS -09 grade level, you must have one year or twelve (12) months of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-08) in the Federal government. Specialized experience is experience that is related to the work of this position and has provided you with the competencies required for successful job performance. Examples of qualifying experience may have been gained in positions:
  • Providing training and assistance to user customers.
  • Assisting with the administration of the overall computer security program;
  • Installing, maintaining and upgrading software.
  • Installing and maintaining hardware.
  • Advising and providing technical assistance to computer systems users on a wide variety of computer software and hardware issues;
  • Independently analyzing, resolving and correcting discrepancies in routine and complex situations.

This position requires extended periods of standing, caring for equipment, carrying, or loading materials. Considerable walking, lifting, and sitting are required. Also, you must be able to lift large computer listings, boxes of paper or computer equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
