About the Position: This position is a TERM position note to exceed 13 months, extendable up to a maximum of 18 months.
Direct Hire Authority for US Army Corps of Engineers Park Rangers to Meet Seasonal Critical Hiring Needs.

As a Park Ranger you will work in recreation management, natural resources management, visitor assistance, and interpretation.

Duties

Help
  • Inspect Campgrounds, picnic areas, buildings, trails, roads, water shores and parking areas.
  • Ensure safety of public visitors, employees and contractors.
  • Present information to the public, such as campfire and water safety, or interpretive programs during nature walks.
  • Prepare a variety of administrative reports.

  • This position requires a pre-employment physical, and annual physical thereafter.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting, up to 45 lbs, is required from time to time.
  • CPR Certification is required.
  • Emergency Response training is required.
  • A valid state driver’s license is required.
  • Shift work to include days, nights, weekends, and holidays is required.
  • This position requires you to have Visitor Assistance/Title 36 Training in accordance with ER 1130-2-550 within the first 12 months of employment.
  • This position requires the ability to withstand extreme stress during situations when human life may be at stake.
  • This position requires the incumbent to work outdoors, in remote areas, over water, in adverse weather conditions such as extreme heat, cold, rain, and wind.
  • This position requires the employee to wear a uniform, and appropriate safety gear and protective clothing as required while on duty.
  • Additional State background checks will be required.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience or education requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience - Qualified candidates will describe in their resume at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level in federal service with monitoring visitor activity and enforcing park rules and regulations.
OR
Education: Have completed the requirements for an undergraduate degree: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with twenty-four semester hours of related course work in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archaeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of specialized experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 120. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.).

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
