Duties

Help
  • Provides maintenance and repairs for a variety of parts, components and accessories for motor vehicles, construction equipment, and utilities support equipment.
  • Uses test equipment to locate worn or poorly adjusted parts.
  • Uses motor vehicle on-board computers to diagnose problems, and electronic analyzers to test automotive computer control systems and emission systems.
  • Reads and interprets parts manuals and manufacturers repairs manuals in order to apply this knowledge to motor vehicle equipment repairs and maintenance.
  • Cleans or replaces filters, screens, battery cables and clamps, engine components, and heating and cooling devices.
  • Troubleshoots, repairs, and adjusts gasoline, diesel, or multifuel engines and components to ascertain the reason for malfunctions to accomplish all necessary repairs.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position you must meet the following by the closing date of the vacancy announcement: 12/06/2023. Qualifications will be determined under the Job Element Rating System X-118C, Qualifications Standard Handbook. While a specific length of time and experience is not required for most Wage Grade positions, you must show through experience and training that you possess the best qualified level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of this position. Qualification requirements emphasize the quality of experience, not necessarily the length. The responses to the questionnaire and your resume should be in significant detail to provide the person rating your application with a good understanding of your ability to do the job, technical knowledge, work, and training experience, etc. (For example You must have the ability to perform the duties of a, Automotive Worker without more than normal supervision (Screen Out)). Physical Effort

  • Requires crawling, bending, standing, and working in various strained positions for a considerable portion of working time; close hand-and-eye coordination in performing critical assembly and adjustment tasks, heavy lifting, pulling, or pushing of assemblies.
Working Conditions
  • Work is performed inside and outside. Work inside is performed in drafty quarters and incumbent is subject to cuts, abrasions, burns, and fall form slippery floors. The nature of the work is dirty, greasy, and noisy. Outside work requires the incumbent to service cars in all types of weather and requires for on- and - off road service of vehicle.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

Applicants who meet basic minimum qualifications will be placed in one of three categories: Best Qualified, Well Qualified, or Qualified.
