As the IT Specialist, you will:

  • Administrate and support the National Gallery’s multi-cloud hybrid computing infrastructure and services to include but not limited to Microsoft Active Directory, Group Polices, Email, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft O365 backend, shared enterprise storage systems, enterprise file shares, backups/recovery, sever virtualization, remote access, DNS/DHCP, single-sign integrations, monitoring, in conjunction with other technologists. Serves as Contracting Officer Representative (COR) and oversees contractor delivery of services by the contractor personnel.
  • Develop and plan management briefs and maintains technical and procedural documentation. Works with the procurement office on needed awards for resources, develops and coordinates review of various procurement documentation (requirements, Statements of Work, proposal instructions, evaluation factors, etc.).
  • Monitor and report progress about scope, schedule, cost, resources, quality, and risk on assigned projects.
  • Serve as a Tier 4 engineering/support of end-point computing environment which includes but not limited to overseeing imaging, infusion of new technologies, tech refresh, investigating resolution of complex problems.
  • Design, develop, and maintain backend architecture for new initiatives.
  • Perform virtualization infrastructure provisioning and management.
  • Monitor availability and performance of production systems while ensuring high levels of service availability.
  • Serve as principal technical authority and lead specialist with responsibility to ensure effective, economical, and advanced technical management of computer infrastructure.
  • Define and executs projects to include an understanding of business and IT requirements, creates and monitors a schedule of activities, performs quality assurance over work performed by others, and works with TDS management to identify and budget for needed resources (staff, contractors, equipment, etc.).
  • Serve as liaison with TDS security for cyber related routine tasks (such as identification of monthly vulnerabilities and baseline requirements) and responds to security incidents. 
  • Serve as Tier 4 extension to the TDS User Services for providing engineering and solution development for end-user computing services. 
  • Ensure security compliance, remediations in accordance with National Gallery IT security standards and applicable federal requirements.
  • Monitor and review internal/external cyber security notifications, security incidents, vulnerability scans results and leads compliance of systems and services in accordance with security standards and industry best practices.
  • Act as a liaison with TDS security department on behalf of both TDS Operations and TDS Users Services.
  • Lead internal review and remediation plans for routine monthly security scans and unexpected security incidents and/or security findings.
  • Provide hands-on technical expertise in support of service deployments (operation architect/systems administration) and escalation and restoration (24x7 on-call) efforts.
  • Share concepts and techniques as well as fosters and encourages sharing of knowledge. Communicates regularly and participates in meetings with both TDS and non-TDS departments to support operational and project-level needs of the departments.

Candidates must meet the Qualification Standards Handbook requirements for the GS-2210-14.

For this position, specialized experience is at least one year of experience, equivalent in responsibility to the GS-13 level in the Federal service, (1) establishing a server operating system for an organization of at least 500 employees, and (2) building and administering a cloud network environment for an organization of at least 500 employees.

Other Relevant Eligibility Criteria: Must be able to climb a ladder. Requires availability for on-site support during non-business hours. Requires ability to work outdoors periodically.  Requires ability to work in cramped spaces and to manipulate tools and equipment in those spaces.

1. Administration – Advanced hands-on Knowledge of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, Windows Servers and workstations operating systems, single-sign-on integration techniques, backup technologies, virtualization, administrative operations, and processes to develop, carry out, and report on all phases of assigned duties. Storage and Enterprise File Sharing Technologies. 

2. IT Infrastructure – Knowledge of IT principles, concepts, and functions as it relates to building, operating, and maintaining backend architecture in a complex multi-cloud, hybrid Enterprise  environment with heterogenous operating systems and technologies.

3. Cybersecurity – Ability to analyze, develop, and recommend cyber security solutions. Hands on experience with Cyber scanning, assessment and remediation tools (Tenable AD, Nessus, Lacework) and endpoint (servers and workstations) compliance and configuration management tools and remediation techniques. Microsoft WSUS, Ivanti and/or equivalent products. Advanced knowledge experience with Microsoft Visio and Excel.

4. Communication – Skill in both oral and written communication, for consulting, reporting, and delivering information to a technical or non-technical audience.
