Duties

Help

  • Plan, coordinate, and implement assigned research programs and the management and evaluation of grant applications.
  • Monitor the status of project applications and awards from peer review through post-award administration and produce documents and responses to requests for information required.
  • Coordinate with investigators, institutions, organizations and other government agencies engaged in assigned research activities and related fields and provides assistance to prospective grantees on various grant mechanisms and grant review processes.
  • Communicate with relevant program, review, and grants management staff in support of projects and initiatives.
  • Support the management of research resources, technical administration and programmatic evaluation of funded grants and other activities.
  • Assist program staff with various grants or portfolio-related programmatic and administrative activities, including preparing funding plans.

Qualifications

Basic Education Qualifications:

In order to qualify for a Scientific Program Analyst, GS-601, position you must have successfully completed a full 4 year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. (This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained).

To qualify at the GS-12:

In addition, in order to qualify for a Scientific Program Analyst, 0601, at the GS-12 level, you must have at least one year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: monitoring the status of project applications and awards from peer review through post-award administration; carrying out assigned segments of complex studies covering a wide range of research topics; assisting in drafting technical reports, analyzing data from research studies, and publishing research findings; assisting the Project Scientist/Project Officer to support the management of research resources, technical administration and programmatic evaluation of funded grants; and serving as organization representative on various internal and external working groups and committees.

To qualify at the GS-13:

In addition, in order to qualify for a Scientific Program Analyst, 0601, at the GS-13 level, you must have at least one year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: conducting epidemiology- related health research; managing and evaluating grant applications; preparing comprehensive reports of study results; and identifying issues and making recommendations for program direction and priorities based on research data and analyses.
