Duties

Help

The Physical Security Specialist will be responsible for the organization's physical security program as it applies to the client agencies within the buildings assigned in conjunction with security managers.

In this position, you will: 

  • Manage security designs and security installations; lead in-house security designs as needed; and conduct intrusion and physical security surveys to identify how vulnerable facilities are to potential threats.
  • Provide full lifecycle management for projects and develop detailed, accurate statements of work, specifications, independent government cost estimates and drawing and documentation packages.
  • Lead risk assessments which may include data entry, site surveys, review of internal and external crime statistics, interviews with unit stakeholders, and presentation of findings to personnel and management.
  • Analyze difficult and complex security problems and develop solutions utilizing a wide range of physical security concepts, principles, and practices.
  • Serve as security construction manager and/or technical expert to the construction managers in charge of all aspects of physical electronic security systems that include Video Security System (VSS), Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV), access control, intrusion detection, physical barrier system, X-Ray machines, personnel screening system, and mass notification system designs.
  • Serve as the Contracting Officer’s Technical Representative (COTR), project manager, and representative for security and building construction projects.

Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal Service.

For this position, specialized experience is defined as: Demonstrated experience in the design of physical and electronic security equipment, such as, conducting site surveys; reading, interpreting, and analyzing security drawings and specifications; or preparing detailed drawings of alarm, card access, and CCTV equipment and wiring. In addition, experience conducting intrusion and physical security risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and/or potential threats is required.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.
