This position serves as Regional Response Team Coordinator (RRT), supporting the Coast Guard Co-Chair of Regional Response Team 9, by coordinating all aspects of the RRT and making recommendations regarding issues related to the RRT for oil and hazardous substances response to the Coast Guard Co-Chair and his/her chain of command.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: 

  • Directing the work of a District-wide coordinator for six California Coastal Area Committees.
  • Directing the work for up to two USCG officers who are involved in contingency or exercise planning, related to oil and hazardous substances response and/or assisting with all-hazard contingency planning as directed by the Branch Chief.
  • Collaborating with other staff members to maintain the California coastal Oil/Hazardous Materials Area Contingency Plan (ACP) and the Region 9 Regional Contingency Plan (RCP).
  • Coordinate activities related to the Joint Response Team (JRT), under the Pacific Annex of the U.S.-Mexico treaty by coordinating meetings, exercises and staff work related to that relationship.
  • Qualifying to perform incident management duties such as Liaison Staff Member or Liaison Officer in a Unified Command, Area Command or Joint Field Office (JFO) in accordance with the National Incident Management System.

Qualifications

To Qualify at the GS-13 level: Applicant must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level (in the Federal sector). Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Examples of specialized experience include: researching and writing technical papers; facilitating large meetings of public and private sector representatives; knowledge of safety hazards involving oil and hazardous chemicals; web and database development and management; and knowledge of federal, state and local laws related to marine environmental protection.

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
