Duties

Help
  • Operate a variety of engineer equipment such as pay loaders, tractors, graders, and rollers to perform excavation, back filling, grading, leveling, tamping, and piling to maintain roads, grounds, draining items, signage, fencing and other tasks.
  • Responsible for determining appropriate equipment and attachments to utilize in order to complete work that has been assigned to you.
  • Operate bulldozers and loaders to perform such tasks as clearing grounds, piling sand, stone, or other aggregates, and filling and leveling operations.
  • Work in all types of weather conditions, operating snow removal equipment, such as a snow blower, grader with wing unit, and loaders to accomplish snow removal operations in parking lots, on post roads, and housing areas.
  • Make minor adjustments to equipment and hardware and makes repairs to motor vehicles assigned, such as, repair and replacing tires, repairs mirrors, and windshield wipers.
  • Operates mowing equipment, and tractors with attachments to mow grass.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Engineering Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform common Engineering Equipment Operator tasks, including driving dump trucks, loaders or tractors to haul sand, stone and/or other aggregates; leveling grounds using equipment such as graders or rollers, and operating a variety of snow removal equipment (e.g., snow blowers, graders with wing attachments or loaders) to remove snow. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

To meet the basic eligibility for this position, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official. In addition to the selective placement factor above, you must also meet the experience requirements below:

NOTE: This position has a selective placement factor which must be met prior to employment and for continued employment. This position requires a valid Class A or B New York State Commercial Driver's License (CDL), without air brake restriction. You MUST upload a copy of your certification with your application. Physical Effort: Heavy physical effort in constantly reaching, bending, turning and moving hands, arms, feet and legs. Considerable strain caused by constant vibration and jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces. Lifts and carries items in excess of 45 lbs.

???????Working Conditions: Work is performed in all types of weather, exposed to injury due to the possibility of tipping or overturning. Subject to noise, vibration, dust, dirt and exhaust fumes.
