Duties

Help
  • Engage in original research to support the Center’s mission to educate, train, and inspire future army officers in the recognition of atrocity and ways to prevent or mitigate its effects.
  • Teach a regional survey history (Africa, East Asia, North America, Latin America, Middle East, Europe, or Russia/Central Asia) at the undergraduate level.
  • Teaching responsibilities may include an upper-level elective in Genocide and/or the Holocaust, and an upper-level elective or an advanced undergraduate seminar in the candidate's area(s) of specialty.
  • Assist the Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies (CHGS) Director with research, administrative requirements, projects, and activities.
  • Support Center’s collaboration with the Department of Defense on atrocity prevention activities and research.

This is a full-time term appointment in the excepted service not to exceed 13 months. Term appointments may be extended beyond the initial term. As a term employee you will be eligible for medical insurance, life insurance, retirement, dental and vision. You will be eligible to earn annual leave and sick leave.

BASIC QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must (a) hold a bachelor's degree or higher that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, OR (b) possess a combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, your application package will be rated on the following selective placement factor, knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA) requirements listed below:

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR/KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Applicants will be evaluated on the following: 1) Academic Accomplishment (Ph.D. preferred) in History, Atrocity, Human Rights Studies or a closely related field preferred. 2) Ability to teach an introductory survey in a Regional World History and on History of the United States Army. 3) Knowledge and commitment to student centered and active learning instruction. 4) Scholarship and publication in the areas of Holocaust, Genocide, Atrocity or Human Rights Studies to include writing and communication ability;; 5) Ability to contribute to initiatives of a Holocaust and Genocide center to include assistance with academic administration.
