Summary

This position supports the USDA Forest Service, Northern Research Station, Research East, Urban Forests, Human Health & Environmental Quality unit in New York, NY.

This position is responsible for science delivery and dissemination of information between the scientific and natural resources community, and for implementing and building tech transfer solutions.

Duties

Help
  • Serves as a Program/Project Delivery Specialist located at a US Forest Service Urban Field Station.
  • Work with scientists and resource specialists to develop web content, including descriptions of projects, products, and tools such as ArcGIS StoryMaps.
  • Ensures timely creation and dissemination of a regular suite of science delivery products that have already been developed, webinar series, and other products including science papers, briefings, and document review.
  • Identify new science delivery and/or integrative products and techniques based upon recognized program, client, and stakeholder needs and research.
  • Identify improvements in workflow and internal processes for expanding the web as a platform for improved science exchange.
  • Advance processes that support organizational development aimed at improving internal stakeholders’ timely and recurring use of the web as a platform for communication and science exchange and data access.
  • Work with programs, scientists, resource specialists, leadership teams and other partners to maintain current and develop new science/manager approaches to synthesize science findings on forested research.
  • Evaluate scientific findings and facilitate an informed discussion and/or disseminate the information to the management community.

Qualifications

Basic Educational Requirements:
GS-0101 Series:
Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

Combination of education and experience -- that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

GS-0401 Series:
Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

Combination of education and experience. GS-1301 Series:
Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must also possess experience and/or directly related education in the amounts listed below.

Specialized Experience Requirement:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent private sector experience. Specialized Experience is defined as all of the following: Managing projects for improving communication and knowledge exchange between the scientific and natural resources management community; AND Developing web content related to science communication, including descriptions of projects, products, and tools; AND Coordinating partnerships with a wide range of natural resources interest groups and constituencies and identifies and develops some new partnerships with natural resources interests groups and/or constituencies.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

There is no substitution of education for specialized experience.
