As a Writer-Editor your duties will include, but are not limited to the following:
Writes original news and feature articles for The Catalyst, the official bimonthly newsletter for NIH scientists.
Works closely with the Managing Editor to schedule and run editorial meetings, including tracking, listing, and planning new story ideas; manage copy flow to be sure that appropriate contributing writers, reviewers, editors, and proofreaders do their jobs within the publication schedule.
Works with writer interns and volunteers, to train the next generation of science and policy writers is a major element of the Catalyst mission.
Conducts research and interviews of scientists and policymakers on technically complex subjects and may include attendance at scientific meetings or conferences to keep abreast of breaking developments in a wide range of biomedical research areas.
U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.

Qualifications
To qualify for the Writer-Editor position at the the GS-13 level:
You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: advising and assisting authors during the writing stage; researching and rewriting to organize, balance, and complete deficient manuscripts to meet publishing objectives; conceptualizing and developing materials such as reports, testimony, proposed legislation, etc. to Congress and other audiences; performing a full range of editing assignments for technical and scientific research programs; and providing guidance to a managing editor on optimizing print layout design and uploading articles to a web platform for online viewing.
You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.
