Duties

Help
  • Plan the work to be accomplished by assigning work to employees and establishing production or quality standards for the unit's work.
  • Determine manpower and appropriate equipment needed to complete projects.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate construction and maintenance projects.
  • Repair and maintain vehicles in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Oversee vehicle and equipment maintenance to ensure they meet safety standards and are cost-effective.
  • Operate tractor/trailer combination heavy trucks exceeding 50,000 lbs. on winding roads and steep grades.
  • Develop work plans and schedules projects related to or using engineering equipment.
  • Supervises 25% or more of the time.

Additional Requirements (Screen-out):
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - Must possess and maintain a valid class A CDL as a condition of employment. Please attach proof of CDL with application.
  • Drug Testing - This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Department of Transportation (DOT)/Forest Service Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Program. Applicants must acknowledge this requirement to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use unless they currently occupy a TDP under the DOT/Forest Service Alcohol and Controlled Substances Testing Program.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

There is no substitution of education for specialized experience.

The USDA Forest Service has legislative authority to recruit and fill Permanent (Career/Career-Conditional), Temporary, and Term Appointments under the USDA Demonstration Project. Under this authority, any U.S. citizen may apply.

Salary wage as shown is for Utah. Final salary will be determined at the time of selection dependent on the duty location For more information, refer HERE.

Positions filled will be full-time; or full-time seasonal with either 13 pay periods of guaranteed pay status and 13 pay periods of nonpay time or 18 pay periods of guaranteed pay status and 8 pay periods of nonpay time.

Positions filled from this announcement may be a bargaining or a non-bargaining unit position represented by either NFFE, AFGE or NAGE.
