Duties

Help

As a Utility Systems Repairer - Operator WG-4742-9 you will be responsible for providing general repairs and preventive maintenance to university facilities, offices, and buildings. Your typical work assignments may include the following:

  • Operates and maintains healing and cooling equipment for multiple building complexes.
  • Operation and maintenance of the following types of equipment, mechanical compression type cooling units, two-ton window air conditioning units, air heating and ventilating units, hot water heaters and storage tanks.
  • Monitors water supply and return temperature, outside temperature, relative humidity and cooling towers.
  • Maintenance and service belts and/or changing filters, lubrication, installs worn and broken parts.
  • Makes repairs on a variety of commercial refrigeration and air conditioning units.
  • Maintains proper steam pressure and temperature by adjusting controls and regulating steam boiler, water pumps.
  • Inspects and performs preventive maintenance to boilers and equipment. Provides a variety of services of a general nature in preventative maintenance, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, emergencies, general repairs and service calls.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the qualification requirements contained in the OPM Standards for this position. They are listed below.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Utility Systems Repairer - Operator, WG-4742-9

Experience: There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position.

(Screen-Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Utility Systems Repairer - Operator involves operation and maintenance of heating and cooling systems and boilers; checking steam pressures, hot and chilled water supply and return temperatures, heating and cooling air supply and return temperatures; making repairs to burners, fans, pumps and other related equipment and restarting heating and cooling equipment that has been automatically shut down without more than normal supervision. Failure to meet a minimum level of experience will result in an ineligible rating.

In addition to meeting the Minimum Requirement, you must meet the requirement below.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: If you do not possess the required certification specified below, you will be rated ineligible. You MUST provide a copy of the certification at the time of applying for this position.

Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year (52 weeks) of service at the next lower grade level.

Only experience and education obtained by the closing date of this announcement will be considered.

Education

This position does not have a positive education requirement at this grade level. Therefore, no transcripts are required.
