Summary

Duties

Help
  • Research applicable laws, directives and other regulatory material to gain audit knowledge.
  • Identifies applicable personnel and relevant data related to the area being audited.
  • Organizes and summarizes audit data to support finding elements.
  • Assists in writing segments of draft and final reports.
  • Assists in developing audit recommendations for management action.
  • Holds discussions with audit clients to discuss audit work and explain conclusions.

  • This national security position, which may require access to classified information, requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance as a condition of employment. Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination.
  • Incumbent is required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and is subject to random drug testing for the duration of service with DoD OIG.
  • The incumbent must adhere to the DoD Standards of Conduct.
  • This position requires a security clearance at the Secret (Non-Critical Sensitive) or TS/SCI (Special Sensitive) level.

Qualifications

  1. Degree: auditing; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, public administration or accounting.

    or

  2. Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in Performance Auditing, or an equivalent combination of performance auditing experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional auditing knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following:

    1. A certificate as a Certified Internal Auditor or a Certified Public Accountant, obtained through written examination; or
    2. Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in auditing or accounting, e.g., 15 semester hours.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must meet the specialized experience described below.

GS-7 Specialized Experience:
You must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent. Demonstrates skill in utilizing basic knowledge of auditing principles and procedures in the planning and execution of audits; working as part of an auditing team; and accomplishing basic auditing data collection.

GS-9Specialized Experience: You must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent. Demonstrates skill in utilizing basic knowledge of auditing principles and procedures in the planning and execution of audits, working as part of an auditing team; and accomplishing basic auditing data collection.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience.

Only experience and/or education obtained by the closing date of this announcement will be considered.

Education

Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience:

GS-07 One full year of graduate level education or Superior Academic Achievement may be substituted to meet the specialized experience requirement.

GS-09 Two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education, Master's or equivalent graduate degree, may be substituted to meet the specialized experience requirement.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be used to substitute for the specialized experience requirement.

PASS/FAIL COURSES: If more that 10 percent of your undergraduate course work (credit hours) were taken on a pass/fail basis, your claim of superior academic achievement must be based upon class standing or membership in an honor society.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specialized in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Additional information

  • Candidates applying to the Ft. Meade location - If you do not have an active TS/SCI clearance, you will temporarily work at our headquarters, which is located in Alexandria, VA. Once your clearance is finalized, you will be assigned to the Ft.
    Meade office.
