Duties

Help
  • Prepares design details, layouts, plans and specifications for all engineering features of projects.
  • Makes field investigations of proposed construction site to observe conditions and obtain additional data for design purposes.
  • Estimates quantities of materials and items needed for a particular job.
  • Develops preliminary and final design features of work projects using the full complement of the CADD system.
  • Reviews plans and specifications and drawings prepared by A-E contractors for conformance to established design criteria and USACE standards. Indicates recommended changes or revisions for further action by Technical Lead or Supervisor.
  • The projects involve beach nourishment, navigation channel dredging, harbor improvements, coastal structures, flood control, shore protection, environmental restoration projects and more.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service which includes expertise in operation of and a good working knowledge of the features and capabilities of Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) and Geographic Information System (GIS). Knowledge of civil engineering design principles and construction practices, gained through a combination of extensive on-the-job practical experience, formal education and training in engineering subjects applicable to work performed. Ability to develop civil engineering designs, project layout, work schedules and ability to carry work through to completion with little guidance from Technical Leads or supervisor, except in cases of unusually complex design problems.
