Duties

Help

The Center for Computational Toxicology and Exposure (CCTE) within the Office of Research and Development (ORD) is a scientific organization responsible for carrying out EPA's mission to protect human health and the environment by developing and applying cutting edge innovations in methods to rapidly evaluate chemical toxicity, toxicokinetics, fate, transport, and exposure in human and ecological species and systems. To accomplish its mission, CCTE conducts fundamental and applied research across a range of disciplines important for evaluating chemical safety. Part of CCTE's mission is to enable regulatory and non-regulatory Agency programs to integrate data from new technologies and the underlying computational, mathematical, and statistical models used to analyze the data into chemical safety decisions. The Biomolecular and Computational Toxicology Division (BCTD) of CCTE performs research to develop and advance laboratory experimental and computational approaches to rapidly evaluate and characterize the potential human toxicity of chemicals.

Specific duties of this position include:

  • Providing leadership and guidance to support Agency priorities such as the New Approach Methods (NAM) workplan, Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) New Chemicals, and the Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) Strategic Roadmap.
  • Designing and conducting research that develops and applies computational toxicology approaches to analyze data from high-throughput in vitro assays, genomics, in vivo toxicity studies, chemical properties, and other relevant sources to discover relevant information regarding potential human health and ecological effects of chemicals.
  • Collaborating with experimental investigators in CCTE and across ORD as well as domain experts in computational chemistry, exposure science, text mining, bioinformatics, statistics, and risk assessment.
  • Mentoring, coaching, and providing guidance to other staff and scientists to support career development and knowledge management within CCTE.
  • Assessing the broader research needs in computational toxicology and in evaluating grants, partnerships, and other collaborative research approaches to effectively advance solutions in this scientific area.
  • Representing CCTE, ORD and the Agency in external activities, particularly in the translation of these activities to the fields of toxicology, exposure science, and risk assessment.
