Duties

Help
  • You will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing programs in fish and wildlife management.
  • You will be responsible for monitoring and managing wildlife populations and their habitat.
  • You will develop and implement annual and long-range management plans for fish and wildlife resource management.
  • You will comprehensively review program work for attainment of Integrated Natural Resources Management Plan goals and objectives. Ensures program compliance with National, DoD, and Marine Corps Policy and regulations.
  • You will develop a program budget and monitor use of funds and personnel available to the Head, Natural Resources Section for accomplishing objectives in the most efficient manner.
  • You will design and conduct threatened and endangered species surveys to ensure listed species or species of concern are not impacted by any current or future activities.
  • You will synthesize current scientific literature and analyze data to incorporate into management plans and conservation projects with an emphasis on sustainable integration with the military mission and other conservation programs.
  • You will plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work.
  • You will develop performance standards and evaluate work performance of subordinates. Identifies developmental and training needs of employees, providing or arranging for needed development and training.
  • You will give advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters.
  • You will administer dispersed outdoor recreation programs and develop regulations for fish, game, furbearer, and nongame species.

  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: planning, coordinating, and implementing programs in fish and wildlife management and dispersed outdoor recreation. Experience should also demonstrate using judgement in adapting, developing, interpreting, and applying all applicable natural resources and environmental laws.

Education

Basic Requirements
Nonresearch positions:

  1. Degree: biological science that included:
    • At least 9 semester hours in such wildlife subjects as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, wildlife management, or research courses in the field of wildlife biology; and
    • At least 12 semester hours in zoology in such subjects as general zoology, invertebrate zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, genetics, ecology, cellular biology, parasitology, entomology, or research courses in such subjects (Excess courses in wildlife biology may be used to meet the zoology requirements where appropriate.); and
    • At least 9 semester hours in botany or the related plant sciences.
or
  1. Combination of education and experience: equivalent to a major in biological science (i.e., at least 30 semester hours), with at least 9 semester hours in wildlife subjects, 12 semester hours in zoology, and 9 semester hours in botany or related plant science, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Research positions: Degree with major in wildlife biology, zoology, or botany that included at least 30 semester hours of course work in biological science and 15 semester hours in the physical, mathematical, and earth sciences. This course work must have included:
  • At least 9 semester hours of training applicable to wildlife biology in such subjects as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, wildlife management, principles of population dynamics, or related course work in the field of wildlife biology; and
  • At least 12 semester hours in zoological subjects such as invertebrate zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy of the vertebrates, embryology, animal physiology, entomology, herpetology, parasitology, and genetics; and
  • At least 9 semester hours in the field of botany and related plant science; and
  • At least 15 semester hours of training in any combination of two or more of the following: chemistry, physics, mathematics, statistics, soils, and/or geology.
